Eco-Warriors and Pupil Voice

At Whetley Academy, we have a strong desire for students’ voices to be heard across all things school related. Eco-warriors and Pupil Voice are two of the more formal ways that we do this.

Eco-warriors sees a selection of students from across all year groups meeting up to discuss our school and how we can become more eco-friendly. They will create whole school projects and fundraisers to ensure that our students are aware of the issues surrounding out planet, community and school environment.

Pupil voice is another leadership opportunity for students. In these meetings, students brings ideas about how we can improve school from a student’s perspective. Students develop key Oracy and leadership skills in being the ‘voice’ of their classroom. This can involve leading assemblies, sampling menus in the canteen and taking topics back to their classroom for discussion and feedback. This all works alongside our school focus of teaching Oracy through the use of Voice 21.
